Energy Crisis in Argentina: Warnings from Mondino

In November 2023, before assuming the role of chancellor in the government of Javier Milei, Diana Mondino issued a warning that is now relevant amid the massive power outages: she recommended that industrialists purchase electric generators in anticipation of a possible energy crisis during the summer.

"In January and February, those without generators should start buying, what’s available won’t be enough," she warned at that time to business leaders of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA).

Her statements were made during an event where she also stated that Argentina faced a serious deficit in energy infrastructure and that high public spending did not translate into better services. "We have worse health, worse education, worse infrastructure, worse energy, worse everything," she stated.

Amid the current energy crisis, with massive blackouts in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, Mondino's words resonate strongly, as they anticipated the collapse of the electrical system that is now affecting thousands of users.
